Stage 1

There are some risk that arrive when dealing with idenitical twins or triplets. I have talked about it in the past, but now is surreal. One risk is called twin to twin transfusion, but in our case...triplet to triplet transfusion.

To refresh you on that...basically it means that the babies blood vessels and veins connect in the placenta and the dominate baby takes nutrients from the donor babies. The doctors keep a close eye on someone who has identicals between week 18 to week 28. During these weeks, the babies organs are forming and developing which is why it is a critical time.

In our case...Baby A- Aiden.. is the dominate one.

At week 20, we had the beginning stage of Triplet to Triplet Transfusion. Aiden (Baby A) has slightly more fluid then Austin and Logan. (Baby B and C).
At week 21, (Thursday May 10), we learned that Aiden (Baby A) was stable with his fluid and Austin and Logan (Baby B and C) had some fluid around them that was adequate.
My doctor at the time wasn't too concern about the transfusion happening because they all have bladders still and they all had enough fluid, even thought Aiden had more. It was just stable. Not improving, nor decreasing.

Today was another appointment. Thanks Robyn for going with me today :)

I have gained 8 pounds in two weeks. I guess the protein shakes, milkshakes and cliff bars with protein are finally working.
Weight Gain to date: 28 pounds
Blood Pressure- Good.

I'm now 21.7 weeks (tomorrow will be 22 weeks). All three babies heart beats are great and strong.
Aiden- is the dominate baby...so what does that mean?

Aiden's veins and vessels are connected to Austin's and Logan's. He is currently being the bully and taking all the nutrients. Survival of the fittest? Maybe? He must know that he is fighting for his life.

At the same time, Austin's (Baby B) and Logan's (Baby C) amiontic fluid are decreasing...which is why I am now at Stage 1 of Triplet to Triplet Transfusion.

So whats next?

I was referred to UCSF...sometime next week, I will be going in for an appointment for the specialist to check on the transfusion syndrome. If they stay its stage 1 then I'll be closly monitor until week 28. If they think its stage 2 then surgery will be for the four of us.

We appreciate everyones support during this troubling time. Everything will work out for the best and we are being very optimistic. Please continue to pray for these fighting little miracles!
