And then there were five...

Our first prenatal appointment was February 6th. We were excited for what the doctor would tell us. I was eager to know what could be seen that early (if anything) John was a calm husband who stood by my side during the exam.

We went into the exam with a list of questions...What can I eat? Can I still workout? What over the counter medicine can I take? Is everything okay? But....soon ALL my questions went out the window!

As my OB was doing the routine sonogram...she asked if we took fertility treatments anywhere. I said no and that we discussed if for some reason we aren't blessed then maybe our path is to adopt children.

The next news was the shocker...
"Well, I don't know how to tell you...Your having Triplets!" -OB

At that point, John, sat down and asked...are you sure there are three in there...are you sure there are three in there. (and it continued through the rest of the exam...Those words are still echoing in my ears to this date)

As you can see...YUP...We are parents of triplets! She told us we will never win the lottery because our luck ran out with this case! There are three egg sacks in there and they are developing. We were nervous and were given lots of information on the pros and cons. Should we do selective reduction...but how can we reduce when god gave them to us...should we keep all three...how can we survive with three babies, three toddlers, three kids and finally three teenagers? She decided to check all three babies out to make sure they are really there and alive.  An hour and half later...(long appointment) We could hear all three heart beats! That's when I fell in love, but knew a lot could still happen in the first trimester...

Baby A and B- 6 weeks, 6 days...Good size...(I don't remember how big (size wise)?!?! I know right...horrible, but we were in shock) Strong Heart Beat.    Baby C- 6 weeks, 3 days...smaller then the others, faint heart beat. Baby C could possibly miscarry. We won't know until around 8 weeks.

That is where my heart dropped for a minute. The OB couldn't quite get the sonogram wand to reach baby c. She wasn't sure if it was becuase baby C was lower then the others. So now...we were thinking are we having triplets or twins. Should we reduce or keep them all? Lots to think about and reflect on...

WOW! Can you believe that?
That's what happens when multiples run on both sets of great grandparents. So, if you know Popsi and Granny...(my maternal grandparent) tell them congrats and thank their parents! (they were a triplet and a twin...yikes)
