Admitted

While I was in labor and delivery
I called my cousin freaking out...
She could hardly understand me...
She called my aunt and they both came down to the hospital.

I was admitted.
I didn't know how long I could be stuck here.

Once we got situated in our room the team wanted to check on the babies again.
The put the fetal heart and contraction monitors on me again.
Its hard to keep track of all three babies at once.
Especially at night...
My boys are extremely active at night.
For about an hour and half the were trying to catch all three heart beats.
The couldn't...when they had two babies, the couldn't find the third..
Or when they finally had all three,
Once decided to move and play around.

I was on 4 grams of magnesium sulfate for an hour
then 1 gram for 12 hours.
That medicine is a pain.
It makes you have dry mouth and lips.
My lips were peeling from how dehydrated I was,
but the funny thing is..I wasn't dehydrated.
I was getting plenty of fluids plus I kept drinking water.
Its a side affect apparently.

They kept checking my blood pressure and it was going down.
Dr McElvy came in and wanted me to do a 24 hour urine sample.

Fun! You get to pee in a hat then call them every time so they can dump it in my jug.
My roommate and I both had to do one, so it was funny to see a new nurse double check whose jug belongs to who.
And yes! I made sure John got the camera...that's the one thing I told him he better not forget!

That night my mom, aunt and cousin went home...all that was left was John and I in the hospital room
with strangers and random noises.
I was still a little nervous because they doctors still didn't quite know what to do yet,
We could possible still have the boys but not until the next night after my steroid shots.
The night nurse gave me a sleeping aid to help calm me down to sleep...
well that didn't work.
I didn't fall to sleep until 4:30...and poor John
Every room, couch and cot was taken so he slept sitting up in a chair.
Well...he didn't really sleep either!

The next day: Friday
At 5:30am a nurse came in to draw my blood again.
I looked at her with an out of the world expression.
I didn't know who is white, blond, green outfit girl was and I was in a dazed.
I asked her why she needed my blood drawn again.
The doctor order it apparently.
I then told her, its okay to not draw my blood...its fine with me.
That obviously didn't work because that was needle number 9.

Around 8:30 Dr. Veille came in to check on me.
He said that my liver levels came back great.
My platelet count was great.
But I have some acid in my kidneys...
not too much, but just enough for them to watch it.
I asked when I would be going home..
He laughed and said well honey not for a couple of days at least if not until the babies are born.

My daytime nurse, Heather, came and took my vital.
Over the weekend, Heather and I got along great.
I felt at ease with her.
She made me laugh and took away any worries or problems.

I am thankful that she was my nurse for the weekend...

My cousin also tried to calm me down..which worked..

At 6:00 pm I had to get the last dose of the yucky steroid shot...
For about three hours before the shot,
I kept looking at the time dreading when I would happen
because the previous steroid shot pain...

Heather finally came in a 6 to give it to me.
She said she would give it in my rump...and
that even made me a little more scared
since I haven't had a shot there before...
I jolted when she gave the shot and all you could hear was John saying...
Stop jolting and breathe...
In the end..if you ever have to have a steroid shot,
get it in your rump too...
Its not as bad as in your leg.
It did burn a little but only for
5-10 minutes.

That night,
I finally was able to sleep through the night
besides the fact that nurses kept coming in to check on my vitals.
